I think all these people speaking big big English should go and read about the crusades that happened in the eleventh century.

The Christian world at the time, still basking in the teachings of peace, and “turn the other cheek”, was suffering centuries of conquest upon conquest by Islamic faithfuls who did not know where or when to stop.

Only when there was a drastic change in approach, and the Christians brought the violence to the doorstep of the Islamic conquerors did the violence stop, and mutual respect begin.

The advance of the Islamic world (symbolised by the rise and zenith of the Ottoman Empire) was brought to a head with the final dissolution of the Ottoman Empire by the “Triple Entente”(France, United Kingdom, and Russia in the initial stages) who emerged victorious after the First World War.

The nation of Turkey you see today was once a predominant Christian state.

The Hagia Sophia, a mosque today, was once a church and a symbol of Christianity under the then Roman city of Constantinople.

It was conquered by Mehmet (II), and that was how the destiny of that nation and its descendants changed to Islam.

These conquerors had reached as far as Spain before the shocked Christian faithfuls borrowed themselves brain and resisted, reclaiming lost territory, even though not all.

We all sat here and enabled Buhari when he was employing his kinsmen into various sensitive security and financial positions.

We enabled him using beautiful English even as those “kinsmen” were posting disastrous results for the positions they occupied.

If we had made a stand then, perhaps BAT and company would have at least thought twice nominating not only another Muslim, but one with ties to Boko Haram.

Sadly, even today, some very ignorant ones see nothing wrong.

Tomorrow, you guys will scream when a Northern presidential aspirant nominates another Northerner as Vice, and fools will wonder where the rain started beating them.

Nobody develops a conscience by default.

Most are compelled to do right because people take a stand.

The average human everywhere is ready to commit as much infringement as you allow him.

The tragedy is, the average Nigerian, always reasoning from his belly, is ready to indulge such infringement until it becomes clear as daylight (and too late) that he has been a bloody fool.

For those who are rankled by this development, your last stand is the ballot box.

Just pray there are enough of you who are angry to make your stand count.

Otherwise, just get ready for a steeper round of infringement in the coming years.
